Education That Creates Futures

The non-profit organization Huduma kwa Watoto e.V. supports children and young people living in children’s homes in Kenya by helping to cover their basic needs — with a particular focus on access to education. A central part of the organization’s work is the payment of school fees, enabling many young people to attend school in the first place.

This support was provided in cooperation with Mitmachen Ehrensache — an initiative founded in Baden-Württemberg that is now recognized throughout Germany. The initiative is organized by the State Working Group of Youth Agencies Baden-Württemberg. Its concept is simple yet impactful: students exchange the classroom for a workplace for one day and donate their earnings to social projects. Within this initiative, Huduma kwa Watoto e.V. was specifically selected as a funding project, with a particular focus on supporting students from the Tree House facility.

Impact of the Donations

In March 2025, a donation of €6,000 was received and dedicated specifically to educational support. These funds made it possible to cover the school fees of 23 children and young people over an extended period of time.

The Kenyan school year is divided into three sections (terms), for which school fees must be paid in advance. By financing a total of four terms, not only was a full academic year covered, but additional continuity and stability were also ensured.

Payments were made directly to various educational institutions — ranging from primary schools and secondary schools to vocational training centers — guaranteeing transparent and targeted use of the funds. Supported institutions included Landmark School, Lucky Trinity Kindergarten & School, CT Vocational School, Dr. Babla Kang’aru Secondary School, and St. Mary’s Kagio Boys High School.

Sustainable Perspectives

The continuous financing of school fees has a profound impact on the supported children and young people. It creates reliable conditions for regular school attendance and opens up long-term educational and future opportunities.

Especially in a system where access to education is closely tied to financial means, this support represents a crucial contribution to equal opportunities.

By fully financing four school terms, 23 young people were able to participate in education continuously for more than a year, creating a lasting positive impact on their educational and life prospects.

Special thanks go to Mitmachen Ehrensache for their generous donation and the trusting collaboration, which powerfully demonstrates how targeted support can create concrete and long-term change.
